Countdown Continues...

Well here we are, now less than a week away from departure. The next few days will be busy with packing and prepping the Eagle for "lift off" on either Sunday or Monday! Lots to do with hopes that the weather holds until we at least get south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Every time we plan a major trip I wonder what's so intriguing about RVing? Wouldn't it be much easier to just stay home or plan a trip and stay in motels? Is it the call of the open road? The freedom from everyday responsibilities (I have to admit when we are away I sleep, relax, feel and even think better and clearer)? Is it the sense of adventure, meeting new people, seeing new places, experiencing life lived in other ways, other cultures? Is it satisfying my natural "wanderlust," my love of travel? I always wanted to be a professional traveler. Perhaps RVing is living out this dream.

Perhaps it is even something genetic. My French Canadian and Acadian ancestors were people who picked up and left home; granted they most likely had good reason to do so. My Acadian ancestors were forced from their homes in the mid-1700's and though they eventually settled, maybe what I feel is the need to continue to seek that perfect Acadia once again, that place of peace and harmony, of freedom and community that alludes so many of us these days and that alluded them some 250 years ago. Perhaps then, it is in their spirit that I am drawn to this life style, a life of wandering.

One other thing I think about, is this life-style good for the earth? Are there less expensive and less use of resources ways to travel? Some studies seem to indicate that up to a point, such as spending a quarter of  million dollars on your rig, etc., RVing is a less expensive mode of travel as well as a smaller carbon footprint, whether for short durations or for a month or more. But having both the house and the Eagle probably means expenses and 'carbon' use will be a bit of a wash. We will find out as I hope to keep some sort of record of our usage.

At any rate, I'm sure all these musings will find an answer or some sort of resolution as we embark upon this extended voyage!

More later...

Less than two weeks to go!

Less than two weeks now before we head out...picked up the Eagle yesterday so when we get back from Omaha we can start loading. Route planned, RV parks booked, mail and paper taken care of, and house looked after. I think that does it...now, just so we don't forget M. Giz!

Countdown to TEXAS!

Ok here we are less than 3 weeks from our leaving date...lots to do with Christmas smack dab in the middle!
